Children’s Assessment and Development Unit (CADU)

We cater for children up to the age of 5 who are referred by their paediatrician as requiring a special assessment called ADOS (autism diagnosis observation schedule). This assessment enables us to identify possible areas  in which  the child and their family will need additional help and support.

Once you receive your first appointment, we will usually see  your  child in their  nursery or pre-school setting, their home environment and then in the primary care centre for the final assessment. These three appointments will be completed in close succession over a period of 3-4 weeks and sometimes quicker.

All children who are referred  will be seen by either a Nursery Nurse, a Health Visitor and /or a Speech and Language Therapist. These staff are able to answer any questions and guide the whole family through the process and assessments.

CADU is based in the primary care centre on Turner Road next to Colchester General Hospital. Please note that the PCC car park is now pay and display.
